8:30 am - Diversity and Inclusion in Israel: Empowering the Bedouin Community
September 6 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Join us for a candid conversation with Prof. Sarab Abu-Rabia-Queder (Associate Professor, School of Education and Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev) about the challenges of access and inclusivity in Israeli higher education for minorities. The first Bedouin woman in Israel to earn a doctorate, she is now leading the way to a greater experience of shared society – and academic success – for diverse students at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
Prof. Sarab Abu-Rabia-Queder is a sociologist of education, and feminist activist with a specialty in gender studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU). Her research at BGU focuses on issues of diversity and inequality among minorities in academia and employment, and she has published three books on the subject.
In June 2021, she was appointed Vice-President for Diversity and Inclusion at BGU to ensure equal representation of minorities among student and faculty bodies, including Arabs, women, those with disabilities, Ethiopian immigrants, Haredim, first generation university students, and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Prof. Abu-Rabia-Queder received a Ph.D. from BGU in 2006 and carried out a postdoctoral fellowship in Gender Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and University of Oxford in England.
The event will start with a light breakfast at 8:30 am. Program will start at 9:00 am.
