Ben Hornstein

Light of the Community Spotlight

Ben Hornstein

Meet Ben Hornstein, a BBYO teen and student at Pioneer High School, who exemplifies leadership and resilience within our community. Ben took the initiative to establish the Jewish club at his school. When met with challenges questioning the legitimacy of the club, Ben fearlessly defended Israel and the Jewish community, offering informed responses that upheld the club’s purpose.

Tragically, Ben’s 18-year-old cousin, Ilay Azar, an IDF soldier, was murdered while saving the lives of twenty other soldiers in his squad during the October 7th terrorist attack. This profound loss has ignited an unyielding passion within him to engage in awareness-building and community work across Jewish Silicon Valley. As a leader and member of the House of David AZA #1488 chapter, serving San Jose, Los Gatos, and parts of Campbell since 1964, Ben actively fosters community and Jewish values amongst his peers. Recently, their chapter hosted the impactful event “CRW Stands with Israel,” demonstrating their commitment by raising over $1000 in support of Magen David Adom.

Ben’s dedication, resilience, and advocacy in the face of adversity shine brightly, making him a true light in our community, embodying the spirit of strength and solidarity during these challenging times.
