Opera Guild Lecture
October 11, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Lohengrin by Richard Wagner is the famous opera of the Swan Knight. It will be the topic of the third opera preview lecture on Wednesday, October 11 at 10AM at the Addison Penzak JCC. This opera, originally set in the early middle ages (10 th century), can be interpreted as relevant to our world today (and will be so interpreted in the production that San Francisco Opera is doing). It is a contest between paganism and Christianity, between truth and falsehood, between love and secrets all set to beautiful music. Come learn about this wonderful opera via our lecturer, Simon Williams, Emeritus Professor of the Department of Theater and Dance at UC Santa Barbara. Professor Williams is an expert on Wagner (2 books and multiple articles) as well as being a stage director and opera critic. He is sure to give us an enlightening talk (as he has done in the past).
