4:30 pm - Israel 76 Independence day
May 13 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Together with Rabbi Nico Socolovsky of Congregation Shir Hadash, and with the support of a wide range of community partners, Jewish Silicon Valley is proud to announce this year’s Yom Hazikaronand Yom Haatzmaut community gathering.
This year’s observance of Yom Hazikaron and Yom Haatzmaut will feel different to all of us.
This year’s event centers on the events of October 7th. We will join in remembering the women and men, children, elders and soldiers who were murdered that day in the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.
We will then make Havdallah- a ritual of distinction marking the transition from mourning (Yom Hazikaron*) to celebration of Israel’s existence on the 76 anniversary of its founding (Yom Ha’atzmaut*)
*Zikaron in Hebrew means remembrance. Atzmaut in Hebrew means independence.
These important rituals of distinction are also about connection. Connection to one another, connection to Israel and to the people sacrificed their lives to the country, and connection within yourself.
Through these heartbreaking times the power of connection proves to be one of our greatest strengths. Let it be so again as we gather together.
