June 7 @ 10:00 am

El último sueño de Frida y Diego (Gabriela Lena Frank with a libretto by Nilo Cruz)
Exploration of an Opera by musician scholars that brings out the story of the opera and aspects of its creation.
Join us for a fascinating lecture on Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Two famous, accomplished painters and lovers. When the opera begins, it’s been three years since Kahlo passed. On the Day of the Dead in 1957, the only day of the year that loved ones can crossover that final boundary, a lonely, ailing Diego makes a final wish: to see his wife Frida once more. And the underworld heeds his call. The speaker, Lucy Caplan, Assistant Director of Studies and a Lecturer on History and Literature at Harvard University, teaches classes on music, history, and culture. Lucy has written for both academic and popular publications such as the New Yorker and Opera News. And, she has proved performance notes for major American opera companies. This opera is a co-commission of the San
Francisco Opera.
This event will take place at Congregation Shir Hadash.
