10:00 am - Healthy Aging | Opera Guild- Il Trovatore
August 30 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Fall Season of Opera Preview lectures begins with an opening lecture that will feature Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi. This operatic tragedy has plenty of conflict, conflict in love, conflict in war, conflict between brothers and, of course, gypsies. It is also a tale that teaches us to be careful on how to handle (purported) witchcraft. A baby is stolen, a “witch” is burned and the whole plot is set in motion. The winner in the love contest, Il Trovatore (Italian for troubadour), Manrico, seeks to marry Leonora (the Prima Donna) but, as you will see, this proves to be a difficult task. All this will be explained by Kip Cranna, the Dramaturg Emeritus of San Francisco Opera.
