Both Israel and the US experienced tremendous political storms in the past few years that seemed to threaten the stability of these democracies. While facing those challenges, a conversation has emerged about a growing fracture between the two largest Jewish communities today – American and Israeli.
Is this a real crisis? Did Israel turn its back on American Jews, or have the younger voices of American Jewish communities come to view Israel differently than their parents?
Please join Dr. Anat Balint, Coordinator of the Jewish Studies Program at San Jose State University for an open conversation with Minister Nachman Shai and members of the Jewish Community of Silicon Valley.
This event is part of a collaboration between Jewish Silicon Valley, The Jewish Studies Program at San Jose State and the Israeli Consulate to the Pacific Northwest.

Dr. Nachman Shai held key positions in Israeli government, military and media, before he became the minister of Diaspora Affairs in June 2021. He was a member of the Knesset (Labor Party, 2009-2019) and founded and co-chaired the “Caucus for Strengthening the Jewish People.” In the past, he served as the Israel Defense Force Spokesperson with the rank of Brigadier General and was Commander and Editor in Chief of Israel Army Radio. Dr. Shai also served as the senior vice president and director-general of the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) in Israel. Before taking on his current position, Minister was a visiting professor on US college campuses, teaching Israeli public diplomacy.
