“Leadership and the Pursuit of Justice” featuring Sheila Katz and Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg
January 11 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pmFree
The pursuit of justice is an essential tenet of Judaism. In Deuteronomy 16:20 we are told “Justice, justice shall you pursue”. But what does leadership mean in the pursuit of justice? Do Jewish leaders have an obligation to pursue justice? If so, what does this leadership look like in our increasingly complicated and uncertain world? Sheila Katz and Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg will explore the powerful intersection between leadership and justice in this session.
Sheila Katz is the CEO of National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), a Jewish feminist civil rights organization that has been working for equity and justice for women, children, and families for 129 years. Since becoming CEO, Sheila has led the organization to more than double the number of NCJW advocates to over 210,000 strong working collectively to ensure that the rights of women, children and families are protected, translated into public policy and upheld in our courts. Sheila works to empower Jewish women and allies to engage in work that impacts those at the margins of society while centering the most impacted through partnerships and coalitions.
NCJW Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg is an award-winning author and writer. She was named by Newsweek as a “rabbi to watch,” as a “faith leader to watch” by the Center for American Progress, has been a Washington Post Sunday crossword clue (83 Down) and called a “wunderkund of Jewish feminism” by Publishers Weekly.
