The APJCC Preschool is a developmental, child-centered, play-based school.

Teaching Staff

Our teachers and assistant teachers have credentials and/or training in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and participate in ongoing, on-site ECE workshops and staff meetings as well as attending professional conferences. Members of the preschool staff are dedicated to and believe in the quality of our school. Our staff goal is to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all of the preschool children while recognizing children for their individuality.

Preschool Classes By Age

Toddler Group with the Barvazim (Ducks) and Keshet (Rainbow) Classes

For children aged 18 months

Our Barvazim and Keshet program is designed to provide our youngest children a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment in which to explore and grow. Toddlers will be given loving attention from our caring staff and opportunity to widen their circle of peers and trusted adults. Older children in this group will be placed in the Keshet class. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 4:1. This class is 5 days per week, mornings (8:30am-12:00pm), full days (8:30am-4:00pm) or extended days (8:30am-5:30pm).

Two’s Group with the D’vorim (Bees), Dubonim (Teddy Bears), and Shemesh (Sun) Classes

For children aged 2 years

Children in our D’vorim, Dubonim, and Shemesh programs will have the opportunity to experience a variety of developmentally stimulating activities while at the same time learning to interact with their peers and teachers. Younger children in this age group may be placed in our Transitional 2’s, Keshet class. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 6:1. This class is 5 days per week, mornings (8:30am-12:00pm), full days (8:30am-4:00pm) or extended days (8:30am-5:30pm).

Three’s Group with Parparim (Butterflies), Kochavim (Stars) and Tzabim (Turtles) Classes

For children aged 3 years

Children in our Parparim, Kochavim, and Tzabim programs will be involved in activities that promote their social skills, gross and fine motor skills, self regulation skills, and self-help skills. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 8:1. This class is 5 days per week, mornings (8:30am-12:00pm), full days (8:30am-4:00pm) or extended days (8:30am-5:30pm).

Transitional Kindergarten with Peelim (Elephants) and N’marim (Tigers) Classes

For children aged 4 years

Our TK classes, Peelim and N’marim, offer activities designed to promote self-confidence and refine skills practiced in the 3’s group. TK-aged children will have a transitional kindergarten experience that is rich in pre-literacy, science and math while being true to our play-based philosophy.  Special attention will be made to integrating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities into the everyday fabric of the class. Our TK program is designed to stimulate and enhance the developmental growth of the 4 to 5-year-old child. Maximum child/teacher ratio is 9:1. This class is 5 days per week, partial days (8:30am-1:30pm), full days (8:30am-4:00pm) or extended days (8:30am-5:30pm).

The Preschool Director and teachers may make class placement exceptions for children, if they determine that the exception is developmentally appropriate. Final class placement will be made by the Preschool Director and Staff.
