Israel 76

Remembrance and Celebration.

A group of dancers join in celebration as part of Congregation Beth David's Kibbutz Experience at our Israel 76 event.

Fom heartbreak and sadness to relief, pride, and awe – there were a range of experiences shared at the Jewish Silicon Valley Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha’atzmaut events on Monday, May 13, 2024.

We are so grateful for the contributions of a wide range of leaders and volunteers from across our communities who stepped up in partnership to shape this emotional journey.

“It was a very important event for the entire family, especially this year, " said an event participant. “It took us through a rainbow of emotions, as always, but this is the core of our community, culture and existence. Am Israel Chai!”

The event centered in part around October 7th, and an important ritual of distinction – marking the transition between the mourning (Yom Hazikaron) to the celebration the miracle called Israel (Yom Ha’atzmaut).

After the moving ceremony in the auditorium, guests joined in a celebratory Kibbutz experience on the APJCC Field that included a BBQ dinner, games and activities, and a live performance by The Bagels.  A Kibbutz is a type of agricultural settlement and community collective unique to Israel.

We are grateful to Rabbi Nico Socolovsky of Shir Hadash and the contributions of a wide range of leaders and volunteers from across our communities who stepped up in partnership to shape this emotional journey.
