In addition to the free books or CDs that each enrolled child receives each month, The PJ Library® program in Silicon Valley also offers a lively and welcoming series of programs every month (or almost!). Some programs celebrate holidays, others evoke Jewish values and life cycles. All programs are free and open to anyone in the community whose children (toddlers to kindergarteners) would enjoy such a program. It's a nice way to get to know other families and share The PJ Library experience with others who also love reading these special books.
Notices of events are posted on this website and on our Facebook group page. Check us out! Come to our next event. We look forward to welcoming you.
As the presence of The PJ Library® becomes more visible in Silicon Valley, and as more enrolled families share their delight with friends, more and more children are enjoying Story Times throughout the South Bay.
Each program features stories, songs, finger play, a craft activity, and (in most cases) snacks. All programs are always open to children ages 6 months to 7 years, and parents interested in learning more about their Jewish heritage. Of course, siblings are welcome, too.
PJ Library “Respite Booth” at Israeli Festival – May 9, 2010
The PJ Library® program in Silicon Valley provided a welcome respite for families with young children at the celebration for Israel on May 9, 2010. Stories, snacks, comfy little chairs, and friends made the day appealing for our visitors.
Passover Treasure Hunt at the APJCC - March 25, 2010
PJL brought the Passover experience to life from the Exodus out of Egypt to the celebration of the Passover Seder through a treasure hunt on the Yavneh campus. At each stop, children discovered a new symbol to add to the seder plates they had created. Snacks were served, stories were, and a rousing game of "Moses Says" was played.
Tu B'Shevat Seder at Beth David - January 21, 2010
Delectable fruits and nuts and white and red grape juice made a festive early meal, as Rabbi Aaron Schonbrun and volunteer Davida Adelberg from Beth David led children and their parents through a festive Tu B'Shevat Seder. Celebrating the birthday of the trees and the importance of caring for our world, the children made recycling bins with ecology stickers.
Chanukah at Santana Row - December 2009
PJL enjoyed a marvelous opportunity to share Chanukah and our holiday books with the general community during the Week of December 11-18, 2009. Jewish organizations partnered with us to present a different program each night. Todah Rabah to Women's Philanthropy division of the Jewish Federation, Congregation Beth David, Congregation Shir Hadash, Yavneh Day School, the Retro Dome, Jewish Family Services, the APJCC, and Temple Emanu-El. We added our own special lights to the season!
Havdalah at Shir Hadash - November 7, 2009
A delectable melange of music, stories, craft activities, dinner, and traditional rituals infused a children's Havdalah service at Shir Hadash. Coordinated by Rabbi Lisa Levenberg, the event brought the light and joy of the celebration to many of our youngest children for the first time
Sukkot at the APJCC - October 7, 2009
Fun, Food, Sukkot activities, and being part of the larger Jewish community -- all this was happening at the Sukkot Party sponsored by the APJCC's Center for Jewish Life and Learning, hosted by Rabbi Joshua Fenton (who also did much of the cooking!). PJL participated with a storytime, and a good time was had by all.
PJs and Pancakes - July 14, 2009
What an amazing turnout at Congregation Sinai, as over 60 children gathered for a fun evening that filled tummies and minds with delicious treats! After breakfast-at-dinner, the little ones decorated light switches with stickers for a bedtime treat.
Book Fair at Barnes & Noble - June 14, 2009
Preschoolers not only listened to stories and songs, but hooped and hollered along with their story time leaders. Afterwards, they made a "bookworm" out of a sock, decorated with googly eyes, a felt mini-kipah, and shiny beads at the Almaden branch of Barnes & Noble. The store was a wonderful host.
"Silicon Valley Celebrates Israel" - May 3, 2009
Story time on the Levy Family Campus in Los Gatos, just behind an El Al "plane." We sponsored the "Propella," an inflatable bouncing structure, as well as a respite area for little ones throughout the day to enjoy stories on demand, fruit snacks, and PJ Library balloons.
Passover Program - April 5, 2009
Children made Haroset at BookSmart in Morgan Hill following a PJ Library presentation co-sponsored with Congregation Emeth. The program was similar to the event at Alef Bet in March. We were delighted to offer this event as part of our outreach to the south.
Passover Program - March 22, 2009
The PJ Library® leaders engage children in the Passover march to the sea at Alef Bet Judaica in Los Gatos. Following story time, the children danced between cloth "waves" and made charoset. Parents found great holiday resources for children in the store.
Tu B'Shevat Program - February 24, 2009
The PJ Library® families and friends enjoyed a Tu B'Shevat story time with songs at Calabazas Library in San Jose. It was fun planting herbs for a tasty summer! Following our program, many parents brought their children to Calabazas Park across the street from the library to have more fun together.
