Yesterday, I went on a safari with PJ Library. On July 21st, Temple Emanu-El hosted young safari explorers as they discovered habitats for insects and bugs, swimming animals, birds and mammals. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of PJ Library committee, a gaggle of children ate a safari dinner, trekked through four habitats, learned how Jewish texts refer to the animals that inhabit these environments, had story time, sang songs with Cantor Meeka Simerly and generally, had a great time! Each child received a safari journal created by PJ Library chair, Eleanor Dickman. These journals were not only a guide for the children through the program but were also a memento for them to continue their safari explorations at home.
It is such a pleasure to see the youngest of our community discover Judaism through experiential learning with such loving guidance.
