Leadership Development

Leadership is the key to successful community building—both in terms of fund-raising and friend-raising. The Jewish Federation of Greater San Jose offers leadership groups whose activities and focus are to build enthusiastic, knowledgeable, proactive cadres of community members whose advocacy for both Federation and the beneficiaries they support creates a strong and viable Jewish presence in Silicon Valley.

For more information about these leadership programs, or to become involved in their activities, please contact Arielle Hendel, Leadership Development Director, at (408) 357-7501.

The Goldman Group

The Goldman group is a cooperative endeavor including the constituent agencies of the Jewish Federation for leadership training. In October, each agency sent represntatives to engage in a one year course of study to cover: teambuilding, fundraising, budgeting, marketing, meeting management, and other areas of leadership training for the lay leaders of these agencies. These participants will also be identifying along with their sponsoring agency an area for development upon their return from this year of study. The meetings will be monthly and held on the third Monday evening of the month at the Chai House in San Jose.

The purpose of the Goldman group is to train lay leaders in the skills and techniques of effectve leadership, to incubate successful projects to help beneficiary agencies that will be implemented upon completion of the group's course of study, and to improve awareness of the local Jewish community by building interagency teamwork.

Constituent agencies which have chosen to participate are: Congregation Beth David, Congregation Shir Hadash, South Peninsula Hebrew Day School, Women's Philanthropy of the Jewish Federation of San Jose, Yavneh Day School, Congregation Emeth (Gilroy) and Hillel of Silicon Valley.
