Healthy Living Health Fair seeks volunteers
Congregation Shir Hadash of Los Gatos is partnering with Most Holy Trinity Church in East San Jose and the Muslim Community Association to present the third annual Healthy Living Health Fair 2008 on Sunday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Health Fair will provide free health screening tests to a large, medically under-served community. More than 60 exhibitors will be on hand to provide health information and tools for healthy living. Low-cost health care providers will facilitate ongoing access to health care services.
The Health Fair needs all types of medical professionals and paraprofessionals to help with screenings and review results with participants. The organizing committee also said it needs helping hands for many simple tasks such as walking participants through the process, handing out water, directing traffic, managing food and drinks for volunteers, setting up, and a dozen other little jobs.
By organizing and participating in the Healthy Living Health Fair, Congregation Shir Hadash helps to fulfill its mission of tikkun olam, our obligation to social action, providing charity and repairing the world.
If you can give just two hours of your time you can help make this important project a success. To volunteer, please email Andrea at aabh@aol.com or call at (408) 446-1308.
The organizing committee invites others to get involved. Its wish list includes:
1) Join the Health Fair organizing commitee;
2) Primary-care physicians, nurses and other health professionals to help counsel participants about their health and screen results;
3) Pediatricians to participate in the ‘Teddy Bear Clinic’;
4) Able-bodied people to assist with set-up (early morning) and/or clean-up (2 p.m.);
5) Donations of tooth brushes, toothpaste, and dental floss;
6) Attorneys, especially immigration attorneys, to offer legal information for attendees;
7) Donations;
8) Volunteers on the day of the event to help staff the fair in various positions, helping everything to run smoothly.
