Hillel of Silicon Valley seeks professionals for mentor program

Hillel of Silicon Valley is launching a mentorship and internship program pairing Jewish college students with Jewish professionals in the community. JMentor and JIntern are intended to provide students with advice and experience toward beginning their professional
careers. Local community members are vital for the success of this program.

JMentor pairs a local Jewish student with a local Jewish professional working in the field of interest to the student. The pair will meet five times between February and May to discuss topics related to their shared career interests. From having coffee together to meeting at the mentor’s office to going to a conference to visiting a client, JMentor provides a process for the student and professional to build a productive relationship. The student will benefit from the informed advice of the professional and by creating a connection with the local Jewish community. The professional will know that they have made a difference in a young Jewish adult’s life as they move from college to the work force.

JIntern will arrange paid and unpaid internships. Unpaid internships require students to work between 5 and 10 hours per week, and will count toward school credit. Paid internships require between 10 and 25 hours of work per week. JIntern will provide students with their first job in the field so that they can gain valuable work experience. Professionals in the community in need of interns are encouraged to contact Hillel of Silicon Valley.

Additionally, Hillel is offering a series of workshops including resume writing, financial planning, career testing, interviewing techniques, and understanding employee benefits for the students. These workshops are open to every Hillel student and mandatory for those participating in the JMentor or JIntern programs.

JMentor and JIntern will support Jewish students on local college campuses by introducing them to the greater Jewish community. The program is underwritten by a grant from the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund.
