Obituaries: November 2007

Lore Lane


Lore Lane passed on October 28, 2007 with her family by her side. Born on March 21, 1924 in Hagen, Germany, Lore survived the Holocaust after three years in the Theresenstadt Concentration Camp.  After the war, Lore moved to New York City where she met her husband, Kenneth.  Together they raised their daughters, Vivian and Wendy.  Lore worked  as an interviewer for the U.S. Census Bureaus.  While she moved to the West Coast to be closer to her daughters, Lori maintained her friendships with her long-time New York friends.  Upon moving to The Villages, Lore made friends there, too.  Many friends and family will miss her optimistic, humorous and easy-going mannerism. 
      Lore is survived by her beloved daughters: Wendy Shapiro and her husband Alan and their children, Evan, Brandon and Justin Shapiro of Los Gatos and Vivian Lane and her husband John Leong, and their sons, Kenneth and David Leong of the Los Angeles area. Burial services were held in New York and shiva minyans were held both in the New York area and in Los Gatos at the Shapiros’ home.

Frances Gage


Frances Gage passed away peacefully on September 5, 2007. She  was born on August 15, 1923 in Lubraniec, Poland.
      Frances was a Holocaust survivor who survived the separation from her husband, the loss of her parents, four brothers and her first-born child Erika. She was reunited with her beloved husband Henry after the war and they immigrated with their daughter Ruth to the United States in 1949. Frances and Henry were grateful and proud citizens of the United States.
     Frances was a member of Congregation Adath Israel, Bikur Cholim, Hadassah and a very generous member to Amit Women. She was philanthropic and a very generous woman to numerous organizations.
      Frances was the matriarch of her family. She was self- educated and a succesfull businesswoman. She will be remembered for her unconditional love and support to her entire family. She was the dearly beloved wife of 63 years to the late Henry Gage who passed on February 21, 2004.
    She is survived by her children Ruth (Victor) Brill, Benjamin (Denise) Gage and George (Deborah) Gage; granchildren Dr. Elliott (Stephanie) Brill, Joel, Alea, Stephanie and Daniel Gage and Shanna (Henry) Lai, Tiffany and Jared Gage; and great grandchild Taylor Lai.
     She will be greatly missed, remembered, honored and forever loved by her family. Donations in her memory may be sent in her name to: Coming Home Hospice, 115 Diamond Street, SF, CA 94114 or to the charity of your choice. Sinai Memorial Chapel.
