Thrya Seelig dies at 101

Thyra Muriel Aschaffenburg was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 30, 1904. She led an active life despite a birth injury, which left her with arm impairment throughout her life. She was married to Isadore Seelig from 1925 until his death in 1969. She was a homemaker, expert cook and seamstress, and an active volunteer for social and Jewish organizations including a life membership in Hadassah. During the critical period of Israel’s formation, she and her husband were leaders in the Zionist Organization of America. Following her husband’s death, she continued to maintain her home in New Orleans until 1990 when she moved to San Jose to be near her daughter, Doris Davis, and her family. She remained active for the next 12 years living at Willow Glen Villa until she moved to the Plum Tree Care Center. She had an engaging personality and enjoyed playing cards until just before her death at almost 102 years old.

She had a generosity of spirit that endeared her to everyone who knew her. All will miss her wisdom and humor. Her daughters, Manon Shields and Doris Davis, and son-in-law Richard G. Davis, and grandchildren, Deborah Davis Hawkins and Dr. Richard S. Davis and his wife Sonia and four great grandchildren, J. Spencer Hawkins, Lindsey K. Hawkins, Steven I. Davis and Alec B. Davis, survive her.
