Yavneh Day School receives accreditation

Yavneh Day School recently underwent the rigorous process in order to renew its accreditation with the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), the state’s leading accrediting body for private, not-for-profit schools. School administrators produced nearly 700 pages detailing every aspect of the school’s operation from governance to finances to faculty credentials and student curricula. The accreditation process culminated in a three day on-site visit in February by an accreditation team.

“Through the accreditation process, schools hold themselves publicly accountable to rigorous standards of educational quality, operation and staff competence,” explained Eve Fein, head of Morasha Jewish Day School and chair of the Visiting Accreditation Team.

The visiting team spent time in almost every classroom and interviewed dozens of students, parents, trustees, and staff. On the whole, the team was very impressed with the school. “It’s a real little jewel,” commented Christina Vail, head of Lower School at Sacramento Country Day School.

The committee produced its own extensive report about Yavneh, including specific commendations and recommendations. Faculty, administration, parents and trustees were lauded for their commitment to the school and the tremendous advancements in nearly every area of operation. The students received especially high praise for their enthusiasm for the school, their enthusiasm for learning and their commitment to social action.

“We were inspired by the students at Yavneh. They showed a tremendous commitment to Tikkun Olam and social action,” says Fein.
Committee recommendations were consistent with school self-study findings and will be addressed in the school’s long-term strategic plan (which itself was commended).

“We are extremely pleased, but not really surprised by the results,” says Head of Yavneh Day School Lori Abramson. “We know we have a terrific school.”
