Barbara Murphy

Barbara Murphy, wife of Donald Murphy and mother of Aaron Gabriel Murphy, age 13, died Jan. 26 of pancreatic cancer. She was buried on January 28 at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with Rabbi Daniel Pressman officiating. Mrs. Murphy leaves behind her father, George Revesz, sister Julie Feldman, nephew Peter Feldman, and three greatnieces, all of Philadelphia, PA, and nephew, Nicholas Feldman of Baltimore, MD.

Barbara was born Mar. 21, 1952. Her parents were founding members of Lower Merion Synagogue and she attended Solomon Schechter schools. She had an Orthodox upbringing that gave her a love of Judaism and a foundation of Jewish knowledge that were woven into the fabric of her life. She graduated with a BA in Psychology from Temple University, did her post graduate work at UCSC where she met and, 15 years after he first proposed, married Don. Barbara's entire professional career was in the field of administering worker's compensation. Co-workers recall her as a "smart, overworked, and extremely capable adjuster."

Aaron was born in 1990, attended Yavneh, and Barbara became fund-raising VP for the school. A unique soul, Barbara kept a kosher home and lived to see her son's bar mitzvah, caring about others and having a sense of humor to the end.

The family requests donations in memory of Barbara Murphy be made to UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center (Pancreatic Cancer Research Division). The website is http://cc.ucsf.edu where a specific donor form can be downloaded or donations can be mailed directly to UCSF Foundation Cancer Center Fund, Box 0248 UCSF, San Francisco, CA 94143.
