Jewish Community News February 2004 Rabbi Telushkin to open SBI lecture series Feb. 26 The South Bay Institute for Jewish Living and Learning (SBI) kicks off Thursday, Feb. 26, with Rabbi Joseph Telushkin speaking on "The Jewish War: The Battle to Keep the Jewish People One." Telushkin is the author of "Jewish Literacy: The Most Important Things to Know About the Jewish Religion, Its People and Its History," the most widely selling book on Judaism published in the past two decades. Telushkin's newest book, "The Ten Commandments of Character," was released this fall. Rabbi Telushkin was ordained at Yeshiva University and pursued graduate studies in Jewish history at Columbia University. He has been the spiritual leader of the Synagogue for the Performing Arts since 1993 and is also an associate of the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership. Telushkin lectures widely and has been hailed as one of the 50 best speakers in the United States. He lives in New York City with his wife Dvorah and their four children. The lecture series will continue on Thursday, March 18, with Hirsch Goodman, whose topic will be "When David Becomes Goliath: Israel and Its Image Problem." Rabbi Harold Kushner will speak about "Living a Life that Matters" during this year's closing lecture on Thursday, April 22. This year's lecture series will directly benefit the programs of the Addison-Penzak JCC. All SBI lectures begin at 7:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth David followed by book sales and signing.
