Jewish Community News News: January 2004 Jewish students hold advantage in college
More than 300 people attended Kehillah Jewish High School's second annual Expo on Sunday, Dec. 7. Jessica Fried-Pashkow, assistant director of undergraduate admission at USC, spoke on "College Admissions: The Jewish High School Advantage." According to Fried-Pashkow, universities see a benefit in admitting students from Jewish high schools. Jewish high school graduates come to college not only with a strong, basic curriculum, but also with a background of simultaneously studying Jewish texts. Statistics show that Jewish students tend to stay in school, go to graduate school and become supportive alumni. After hearing from the speaker, the families and students went to visit the Kehillah Jewish High School classrooms where they were exposed to the English, history, science, math, drama, and Jewish text classes among others. The admissions deadline for grades 9, 10 and 11 for Kehillah Jewish High School is Jan. 13, 2004. For more information, call 984-3600 or visit on the web at www.kehillahhigh.org. |
