Jewish Community News News: January 2004 JFS to spearhead South Bay 'full employment' group Jewish Family Service of Silicon Valley has joined forces with Congregations Kol Emeth and Beth David to combat unemployment in the South Bay Jewish community. JFS will become the South Bay point of contact for the Full Employment Group originated by Betty Fellows, a Kol Emeth congregant and member of their Social Action committee. Betty, along with Rabbi Sheldon Lewis, saw the need to help the increasing number of local Jews who had either lost their jobs or who were, at best, underemployed. In 2001, when JFS Executive Director Mindy S. Berkowitz
was employed by Beth David, Betty and Mindy connected Beth David into
the Full Employment circle. Now this circle is expanding to more fully
serve the needs of unemployed or underemployed Jews in the South Bay. JFS plans to host free speakers, create a listserv, and work with recruiters. |
