JFS to spearhead South Bay 'full employment' group

Jewish Family Service of Silicon Valley has joined forces with Congregations Kol Emeth and Beth David to combat unemployment in the South Bay Jewish community. JFS will become the South Bay point of contact for the Full Employment Group originated by Betty Fellows, a Kol Emeth congregant and member of their Social Action committee. Betty, along with Rabbi Sheldon Lewis, saw the need to help the increasing number of local Jews who had either lost their jobs or who were, at best, underemployed.

In 2001, when JFS Executive Director Mindy S. Berkowitz was employed by Beth David, Betty and Mindy connected Beth David into the Full Employment circle. Now this circle is expanding to more fully serve the needs of unemployed or underemployed Jews in the South Bay.
"We are honored to be a part of the Full Employment Group," said Berkowitz. "The needs in our community are great, despite talks of an economic recovery. We see so many former executives, high-tech professionals, and other professionals out of work, and JFS ought to be one portal through which people can come and get assistance that will lead to employment."

JFS plans to host free speakers, create a listserv, and work with recruiters.
