The Reform Jewish movement has had a deep impact on Jewish musical liturgy.
But what impact have world events and contemporary music had on Reform music and worship?
Join Cantor Devorah Felder-Levy as she uses musical examples to explore the evolution of music in Reform worship from the 1950s to the 1970s.
How has the Reform summer camp movement, and more recently new music coming out of the state of Israel, influenced Reform Jewish worship, singing, and identity?
Cantor Devorah Felder-Levy holds an undergraduate degree in music education from the University of Illinois, and a Masters of Sacred Music from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.
In her role as cantor at Congregation Shir Hadash, she teaches in the religious school, works with B’nai Mitzvah students, both children and adults, teaches adult education classes and directs the adult and junior choirs.
Cantor Felder-Levy serves on the executive board of the American Conference of Cantors and is a member of numerous other cantorial/rabbinic associations.
Exploring the World of Judaism is a program of Congregation Shir Hadash and the Bureau of Jewish Education and is supported in part by the Newton and Rochelle Becker Charitable Trust.
