The Blessing of A Skinned Knee - Using Jewish teachings to raise self-reliant children.
All the talk of “Tiger Moms” and the different advice books telling us how to parent in the 21st century, lead us to ask as Jews what Jewish wisdom offers about raising resilient children.
We will share questions and challenges around parenting, and begin the discovery process on what Judaism has to offer in the way of parenting guidance.
What can we learn from the biblical book of Proverbs and from the sages of the past about the most important life lessons to impart to our children?
What values are most important to you as you guide your children into maturity?
Join Nechama Tamler as we use excerpts from The Blessing of A Skinned Knee, by Dr. Wendy Mogel, to stimulate your own thinking on what matters most to you in raising resilient children.
Nechama Tamler’s background is focused mainly on Jewish life and learning. Her career began as a MFCC with an MA in counseling psychology when she ran couples groups for parents expecting their first child. She currently teaches adults in a variety of settings, including the Florence Melton Adult Mini School at the JCC of Greater San Jose and in private study groups on the Peninsula.
Nechama was on the staff of the Jewish Community Federation and the Bureau of Jewish Education for over 20 years before returning to her passion of teaching and learning. She spent a year studying in Israel as a Jerusalem Fellow in the Mandel leadership Institute.
