Don’t feel like a fish out of water - Come and enjoy the support and camaraderie of meeting with others who share your experiences.
Mother’s Circle was created for women of other religious backgrounds who are interested in creating a Jewish home and raising Jewish children. A project of the Jewish Outreach Institute (JOI), an independent national organization that works to open hearts, minds, and doors into the Jewish community for interfaith families, it recognizes that there are many women in our communities who, though not Jewish themselves, are playing a very important role in their children’s Jewish upbringing.

Congregation Shir Hadash is pleased to be offering the Mother’s Circle Mini-Series this winter on three Sunday evenings. Group leaders will be Danita Evans-Behnke, a social worker, and herself the non-Jewish mother of two school aged boys and Rabbi Melanie Aron, who has attended JOI trainings for rabbis.

It is estimated that in the United States today there are as a many as 200,000 women of other religious backgrounds in committed relationships with Jews who have decided to raise their children in the Jewish tradition. If you are one of these, we hope you will join us. If you know someone who is in this group, we hope you will reach out to them and invite them to join us.
You do not need to be a current member of Congregation Shir Hadash to attend.

Mother’s Circle offers free education and support in appreciation of the contribution these women are making to our community and respects each participant's choice to retain their own religious identity while providing a Jewish family life for her children.
