Animals of the Bible are coming to the MLK Jr. Library in San Jose
A unique exhibition by artist Tamar Assaf

Cupertino, CA (July 1, 2010) – Camels, ostriches, owls, antelopes, snakes, locust, crocodiles, spiders, and ants, - all part of a unique exhibition by Bay Area artist Tamar Assaf - will be featured at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in San Jose, August 1 - August 31, 2010. The artwork is a result of a two year artistic exploration of the intricacies and complexities associated with the role animals play in the Old Testament - the base of the three large monotheistic religions that influenced and helped shape human culture and civilization.

In 2008, Artist Tamar Assaf traveled to Israel to research and photograph the animals mentioned in the Bible.
Painting from unique perspectives, Tamar presents a contemporary, close-up, cropped approach to animal paintings that is visually powerful. With a social commentary on animal extinction and preservation, the exhibit touches on multi cultural elements, linguistic matters, and translation complexities relating to how the meaning of animal references changed and evolved over time.

About the artist -
Recipient of scholarships and awards, artist Tamar Assaf resides in California’s bay area since early 2000. In her artwork, Tamar combines her travel experience with her observation and fascination with animal portrayal, investigating our acquired perception of animals in comparison to reality. Tamar's fragmental images are her way of documenting the loss of animals from the wild.
