From generation to generation, Judaism has emphasized tzedakah, acts of kindness and charity, not as an option but as an obligation of being human, and of being a Jew.

Passed down from our matriarchs, Sara, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah, the legacy now lives on in you. When you join us in the Women's Philanthropy, you'll find a place where you can help ensure the importance of tzedakah both to your children and those in your extended family, the family of the Jewish community.

Fundraising in the Women's Philanthropy is enhanced by the option of wearing two beautiful pins. The pins are the Pomegranate and the Lion of Judah, described below. By giving your time and support, you take your place in the long line of women who have carried on this fine and fundamental Jewish tradition. And by doing so, not only will you honor their lives but your own as well.

For more information on the Campaign contact Arielle Hendel, 358-3033 x65.

Levels of Giving

The Pomegranate pin, established in San Jose during the 1992 campaign, is a beautiful silver pomegranate designed to be worn either as a pin or on a chain. The Pomegranate Pin welcomes women into the $1800 giving level and is designed for nine rubies to be placed inside the pin with $100 annual increases

Women who wear the Lion of Judah pin, a $5,000 commitment, join over 15,000 women around the world that are part of the Lion of Judah program. The Lion pin may be inset with additional jewels (ruby, sapphire, emerald or canary diamond) with annual increases. A gold flame may also be added with an endowment gift. For information on upcoming Lion of Judah Appreciation Luncheons, please contact Arielle Hendel.

Or L'Atid (Light Unto the Future), a gold flame emanating from the Lion of Judah pin, symbolizes the Lion of Judah Endowment (LOJE). LOJE is the endowment component of the Lion of Judah major gift program. It represents the establishment of a permanent fund of $100,000 or more guaranteeing that a woman's financial commitment of $5,000 or more to the annual campaign will be made every year in perpetuity. LOJE provides an opportunity to fulfill long term and future commitments to Jewish survival and the quality of Jewish life. Or L'Atid on the Lion of Judah pin is a symbol of the eternal responsiveness of Jewish women.
